Electric Motorcycle vs. Gas: Everything You Need To Know

Introduction

Electric motorcycle and gas motorcycle – as the name suggests one works with the help of electricity and another one requires fuel. However, within the span of 10 years, electric motorcycles are getting more popular due to their eco-friendly nature.

Hence, let’s have a look at some of the benefits of using electric motorcycle vs gas motorcycle.

#1 Affordability

Considering gas prices, buying an electric motorcycle seems to be a wise option. On a global level, the prices have increased by 56% within a year. While the price may vary from country to country and state to state, you will eventually want to switch your gas motorcycle to electric motorcycle.

#2 Maintenance

Gas motorcycles are difficult to maintain compared to electric ones. In gas motorcycles, you need to clean the engine, make sure the oil filters are clean and replace them from time to time. Electric motorcycles, on the other hand, don’t require any such high maintenance.

#3 Comfort

Whenever you start a gas motorcycle, you will notice the vibration. However, if you use an electric motorcycle – the ride will be as smooth as peeling a banana. In fact, you will feel more at ease while waiting in the traffic or at a signal with your electric motorcycle comparatively.

#4 Noise Pollution

Continuing the previous point, electric motorcycles don’t vibrate and nor do they make the “vroom” sound. But that’s the best part as they don’t make noise pollution.

#5 Heavy

Hands down, gas motorcycles are much heavier than electric motorcycles. You will notice that gas motorcycles require a lot more strength to move it. Whereas electric ones can be handled with ease.

Although there are some drawbacks of using electric motorcycles too.

#1 Investment

While you save loads of money on electric motorcycles by avoiding gas/fuel, you will first need to make a huge investment in electric motorcycles. Yes, electric motorcycles are way more expensive compared to gas ones. Moreover, they will increase your electricity cost too.

#2 Short Trips

If you are someone who loves to go the extra mile on your motorcycle, then electric ones are definitely not an ideal choice for you. These electric motorcycles are made for riders who want to take short trips and get time to recharge over and over again.

#3 Battery Life

Keep in mind that battery life is also not that powerful, which means the more you ride the motorcycle, the sooner the battery will go out and you will require replacement. Furthermore, you also need to make sure that we do not over charge the battery otherwise it can get damaged permanently.

#4 Speed

If you or someone who loves to ride motorcycles really fast, then definitely an electric motorcycle isn’t the best option for you. Gas motorcycles have better speed compared to electric ones and they also come with better suspensions.

However, if you want to ride a motorcycle under 30-40 kph, then you can opt for an electric one. But if you are a rider, who loves to hit beyond 50-60 kph, then a gas motorcycle would be perfect for you.

#5 Resale Value

Unfortunately, electric motorcycles don’t have much higher value when it comes to reselling. Just like any other electric product, electric motorcycles are also difficult to resell and even if you try you wouldn’t get a good value. You will feel like selling a used playstation in the market.

Electric Motorcycle vs. Gas – The Verdict

Since electric motorcycles have been introduced in the market, users have more options to choose from. For instance, many people who might want to ride for a short trip and burn gas, harming the environment would be on their mind, can ride guilt free on electric ones.

Although motorcyclists who go on long rides or people who commute to work daily on motorcycles to far distances (and require more speed), should definitely stick to gas motorcycles. In short, each to their own. Depending on your requirements, you may choose which one suits you the best.

Conclusion

In conclusion, no matter which motorcycle you choose, it is important to take care of road safety. Make sure you are always wearing a helmet and safety gears during your ride. Be mindful about people driving on the road and pedestrians.

If you are looking forward to switching to electric motorcycles, take the electricity consumption into consideration. Also, if you are ready make a huge investment as electric ones are expensive to purchase in the first place while it also gives you additional battery cost.
